Baby's Favorite Toys
My 7 month old daughter loves this book! At night before bed, I sit her before a host of books and this is the one she always picks out. I also love the simple story and wonderfully illustrated pictures. The book is a great size for baby to hold and the quality of the paper stands up to my teething little one who like to chew on books.

The Bambi Book (Golden Early Childhood Series)

A sweet alternative to Bambi
The Bambi Book is the story of the day Bambi meets Thumper. Thumper leads Bambi around the woods and introduces him to his friends, Owl, Skunk, etc. This is a great story for little ones because it's full of the detailed, wonderful pictures of Bambi and his friends; it's told in short sentences for short attention spans; and best of all, there's no depressing struggle for survival or mother-killing. This version of Bambi is actually written for children.

Barbie and the Scavenger Hunt (Little Golden Books)

Great book to teach children about following rules!
Barbie and several of her friends and fellow campers our going on a scavanger hunt. Barbie tells all the girls to stay with their partner at all times; to never go off by themselves. What will happen if one of them breaks the rules? This book is an excellent way to teach your preschooler about the importance of listening to what leaders say and doing as they are told. My 3 1/2 year old daughter picked up on this immediatly and a discussion followed the book about why rules are important. Very highly recommend!

Barbie Summer Camp is the Best
Published in Paperback by Golden Pr (13 May, 2003)

Great Early Scarry
Example of Scarry illustration before he honed his style into that which he would become popular. Great drawings of fifties era cars, particulary commercial vehicles: Ice Cream truck, Flower Delivery, etc.

The page depicting a family on vacation is hilariously un-PC: The father is relaxing and smoking his pipe while the wife scrubs a pot at the sink in the camper. Outside, the toddler looks longingly from the confines of his crib as the boy shoots off his toy gun.

Barbie: My Favorite Stories: 7 Books in 1

Great Book for 5-8 year olds
My 5 year old daughter loves this collection of 7 stories. She can read read most of the words, but I believe the level is appropriate for 6-8 year olds. What I like about these books is: 1. It has an index of many stories to choose from, good variety. 2. The illustrations are live pictures of posed Barbies, Kellies and Stacy's in their miniture world. The photography illustrations are far more interesting to look at verses the dated hand drawn illustrations of many of Barbie books. Many single stories of Barbie have a live picture on the cover, but funny looking dated pictures on the inside. THe hand drawn illustration don't look very good. 3. The cost is very reasonable for a collection of books. If your daughter likes Barbie, she'll love these collection of books.

The Nutcracker Review
The fairy tale of the Nutcracker is a classic and has been a favorite Christmas story of mine forever. The Little Golden Book Collection has came up with a version of the Nutcracker that childern can read and understand. This is an excellent book for childern young and old to discover and learn from.

Bartok Get a Life! (Golden Super Shape Book)

The life of rasputin, by his daughter.
This is not really a review. I'm trying to find this book. It is the most candid story about Rasputin ever written. It was by his daughter, written through a ghost writer. Don't know the name of the book or the daughter's name. Rasputin seemed to have a great sensual hold over member of the Catholic church. Much of his story has been white-washed. Fantastic book! I've lost track of it over the years.

Baseball Stars of the 1950s: Interviews With All-Stars of the Game's Golden Era
Published in Paperback by McFarland & Company (March, 1993)
Author: Brent P. Kelley
Average review score:

Baseball history that's interesting!
It isn't easy reading history; good historians are plentiful, but combining that with good writing, storytelling, and narrative flow is darn near impossible these days. Brent Kelley delivers a touching, thoughtful treatment of baseball in the 1950s. Each chapter tells a season's worth of information, anecdotes, and news. He covers much ground, but the reader never loses track of people or events as the summer odyssey unfolds. If you want the whole story of 50s baseball, get it here, in one stunning volume.
